Overview

An industrial metal detector conveyor is a product inspection device consisting of three parts: a belt conveyor, metal detection sensor, and automatic rejector, of which the sensor is the core component.

These machines usually appear on packaging or processing lines to detect even the smallest metal fragments, needles, and contaminants inside the product or package, and automatically remove defective products from the production line, helping manufacturers achieve compliance, minimize product recall risks, and reduce downtime.

This machine is useful for qualified product inspection in food, pharmaceutical, cosmetics, textile, and other industries.

Working Principle

The core component of the belt metal detector is the metal detection sensor, which has three sets of coils distributed inside the sensor, namely the central transmitting coil and two symmetrical receiving coils.

The oscillator connected to the central transmitting coil emits a high-frequency variable magnetic field.

In the idle state, the induced voltages of the receiving coils on both sides cancel each other out and reach a balanced state before the magnetic field is disturbed.

Once metal impurities enter the magnetic field area, the magnetic field is disturbed, the balance is broken, and the induced voltages of the two receiving coils cannot be offset.

Part of the induced voltage is not offset, the control system amplifies & processes these partially induced voltage to generate an alarm signal (metal impurities are detected).

Then the alarm signal can drive the automatic rejection device, etc., to exclude metal impurities from the production line.

Single Sensor

The tunnel metal detection sensor is the core component of a belt metal detector, as shown in the photo below:

This single sensor is suitable for detecting iron, copper, stainless steel, and other non-ferrous metals in paper boxes and plastic film packages.

However, it is not very applicable to aluminum foil bag packages.

Dual Sensors

The emergence of dual sensors belt metal detectors is for aluminum foil bag packages.

Aluminum foil bags cannot detect all types of metals through a single sensor tunnel. X-ray detectors are too expensive for many small and medium-sized enterprises to afford.

The dual-sensor metal detector introduces two sets of detection tunnels, the two sets of tunnels are arranged non-parallel front and back, so scanning foil packages at two different angles can avoid directional omissions.
